दीपावलिः हिन्दी अनुवाद

भारतवर्षे बहवः उत्सवाः भवन्ति। यथा-नवरात्रं, होलिका, रक्षाबन्धनं च। एतेषु दीपावलिः इति प्रधानः उत्सवः कार्तिकामासे कृष्णपक्षे अमावस्यायां तिथौ भवति। भगवतः रामस्य अयोध्यागमने अयोध्यायां प्रथमं दीपावलिः आयोजिता इति जनश्रतिः। एष दीपोत्सवः प्रकाशोत्सवः च। एषः पञ्चदिवसीयः उत्सवः। अस्य पञ्चसु अपि दिवसेषु सर्वत्र दीपानाम् आवलिः दृश्यते।

अनुवाद :
भारतवर्ष में बहुत से उत्सव (त्यौहार) होते हैं। जैसे- नवरातें, होली और रक्षाबन्धन। इनमें ‘दीपावली’ प्रधान उत्सव कार्तिक महीने में कृष्ण पक्ष में अमावस्या की तिथि को होता है। भगवान राम के अयोध्या आने पर अयोध्या में सबसे पहली दीपावली आयोजित की गई-ऐसी जनश्रुति है। यह दीपकोत्सव और प्रकाशोत्सव है। यह पाँच दिवसीय उत्सव है। इसके पाँच दिनों पर ही सर्वत्र दीपकों की पंक्तियाँ दिखाई पड़ती हैं।

प्रथमदिवसे त्रयोदश्यां जनाः आभूषणानि गृहपात्राणि स्वर्ण रजतं वा क्रीणन्ति। धन्वन्तरीति वैद्यराजः अद्य एव पूज्यते। द्वितीयदिवसस्य चतुर्दश्याः विशेषता अस्ति सूर्योदयात् प्राक् अभ्यङ्गस्नानम्। तृतीयदिवसे अमावास्यायां जनाः धनदेवी लक्ष्मी पूजयन्ति। व्यापारिण: व्यापारपुस्तकानामपि पूजनं कुर्वन्ति।

अनुवाद :
पहले दिन त्रयोदशी को लोग आभूषण, घर के बर्तन, स्वर्ण अथवा चाँदी खरीदते हैं। ‘धन्वन्तरि’ नामक वैद्यराज आज भी पूजे जाते हैं। दूसरे दिन चतुर्दशी की विशेषता है सूर्य उदय होने से पहले पूरे शरीर से मंगल स्नान करने की। तीसरे दिन अमावस्या को लोग धन देवी लक्ष्मी की पूजा करते हैं। व्यापारी लोग व्यापार पुस्तकों का भी पूजन करते हैं।

चतुर्थे दिवसे कार्तिकप्रतिपदि शुक्लपक्षे व्यापारिणां नूतनः संवत्सरः प्रारभते। कृषकाः पशुपालकाः च गोवर्धनं पूजयन्ति गोधनं च अलङ्कर्वन्ति। अन्तिमदिवसे द्वितीयायां भ्रातृभगिन्यौ मिलतः, परस्परं सत्कारयतः दीर्घजीवनं सुखसमृद्धिं च कामयतः।

अनुवाद :
चौथे दिन कार्तिक महीने की शक्लपक्ष की प्रतिपदा को व्यापारियों का नया संवत्सर प्रारम्भ होता है। किसान और पशुपालक (ग्वाले) गोवर्धन की पूजा करते हैं और गोधन को सजाते हैं। अन्तिम दिन पर द्वितीया को (दौज पर) भाई और बहन मिलते हैं, परस्पर (एक-दूसरे का) सत्कार करते हैं, दीर्घ जीवन (लम्बी उम्र) तथा सुख-समृद्धि की कामना करते हैं।

अस्मिन् समये सर्वत्र आनन्दः प्रवर्तते। कृषकाणां गृहेषु नूतनान्नं नवधान्यम् समागच्छति। नदीजलं स्वच्छम् आकाश: निरभ्रः दृश्यते। आपणा: द्रव्यैः ग्राहकैः च परिपूर्णाः भवन्ति। बालकाः अग्निक्रीड्नकानि ज्वालयन्ति। गृहेषु मिष्ठान्नस्य सेवनं भवति। लाजाः देवेभ्यः अतिथिभ्यः च समर्पिता: भव, न्ति। गृहाणां पुरतः अल्पनारेखनं दृश्यते।

As she was looking below, the baby slipped out of her hands. Down below there was heavy traffic on the road. Buses, trucks, cars and scooters were passing by. The mother ran down for help. She cried and cried but could not find her baby anywhere.

People on the road wondered, “Where did the baby go?” They asked her to report to the police.

A truck carrying cushions and pillows stopped near a shop. A baby’s cry came from the back of the truck. The baby was lying on the topmost cushion, sucking its thumb.
